Bnei Akiva: a passionately & unashamedly Zionist youth movement. Their focus is on providing Jewish education, Israel education, & life-changing programmes & camps. The ideology: ‘Eretz Yisrael, Le’Am Yisrael, Al Pi Torah Yisrael’ (The Land of Israel, for the people of Israel according to the Torah of Israel).

CAPE SA JEWISH BOARD OF DEPUTIES

The South African Jewish Board of Deputies (Cape Council) works for the betterment of human relations between Jews and all other peoples of South Africa, based on mutual respect, understanding and goodwill, and to protect the civil liberties of South African Jews.

CAPE TOWN HOLOCAUST CENTRE

The Cape Town Holocaust Centre is a place of remembrance for the six million Jews who were killed in the Holocaust and all other victims of Nazism. The Centre teaches about the consequences of prejudice, racism, antisemitism, xenophobia and homophobia, and the dangers of indifference, apathy and silence.

CAPE TOWN TORAH HIGH

Cape Town Torah High is a dual curriculum Orthodox Jewish High School, dividing the school day between the full range of Torah subjects and the highest levels of General Studies in a supportive and educationally progressive environment. They empower students to think critically, behave ethically and embrace learning.

CHABAD ON CAMPUS

Chabad on Campus (CoC) is a community for Jewish university students in Cape Town. The Samson Student House, near UCT, is the home of CoC and offers a variety of year-round student services including Shabbat dinners, Shul services, social events, and individual and group learning opportunities.

CSO

The CSO is a non-profit, volunteer organisation whose main mission is the protection of Jewish life and the Jewish way of life, as well as empowering the community to protect itself. The CSO provides both security services and medical emergency response services in the Western Cape.

ELIOT OSRIN LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

The broad objectives of the Eliot Osrin Leadership Institute is to develop and empower current and emerging lay and professional leadership with ethical, strategic and innovative skills. The Institute’s goal is the future-proofing of our community.

HABONIM DROR

Habonim Dror Southern Africa (HDSA) youth movement aims to educate Jewish youth on Zionism, Judaism and concerns of Humanity. Habonim offers ongoing events for its Chaverim, ranging from weekly meetings to mini-machanot over weekends to Israel tours and programmes.

JACOB GITLIN LIBRARY

For some the Jacob Gitlin Library is a place to borrow interesting books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs & CDs – a little escapism, if you like, with a Jewish theme. For scholars &  students it is a valuable resource & research centre offering archival material & reference books.

JEWISH LITERARY FESTIVAL

The Jewish Literary Festival aims to be a platform to highlight authors, illustrators, journalists, poets, writers and educators with a Jewish connection or subject matter of Jewish interest. The auspicious event traverses multiple genres from food and fiction to politics, memoirs, academia, journalism and the arts.

LIMMUD

Limmud SA is a community of learning where South African Jews can learn and share ideas, regardless of their affiliations or levels of Jewish knowledge. Limmud makes accessible some of the world’s most dynamic Jewish educators, performers and teachers at annual conferences around the country.

MACCABI SA

Maccabi South Africa, one of six Confederation’s of Maccabi World Union (MWU), is the custodian of Jewish sport in South Africa. They are a Zionist, secular, non-profit, volunteer, community sports organisation responsible for providing sport and recreation infrastructure and opportunities for the Jewish community.

MELTON

The Melton School forms an international network of community-based schools offering adults the opportunity to acquire Jewish literacy in an open, trans-denominational, intellectually stimulating learning environment with a curriculum that draws upon classical and modern Jewish texts to explore Jewish practices, history, theology and ethics.

MENSCH

Mensch is a platform that supports and facilitates change-makers and change-making activities to bring about social transformation in South Africa. They facilitate a network of Jewish social change-makers and engage a broader community of activated social change-agents to learn, network and act collaboratively.

MOISHE HOUSE

Moishe House Cape Town strives to provide a space where young adults can explore and construct ways in which Judaism is meaningful to them. They do this through mingling, singing, baking, Friday-Nighting, debating, chicken-soup-and-knaidel-making, learning, creating, dancing, volunteering, adventuring, etc. MHCT is a pluralist, open-minded and safe space.

NETZER

Netzer, a youth movement representing the ideals of Progressive Judaism, prides itself on inclusivity. Through its 10-month Israel programme, annual winter and summer camps, and activities throughout the year, the movement aims to encourage youth to think critically about the issues being faced in the world today.

PHYLLIS JOWELL

The Phyllis Jowell Jewish Day School is a multi-sensory primary school relying heavily on a variety of innovative, creative educational techniques and systems, to inspire learning and thinking in each individual child. Their academic goal is fostering accomplishment and feelings of success for each student.

PROGRESSIVE EDUCATION

Temple Israel – Cape Town Progressive Jewish Congregation: Provides Jewish education for children who do not attend Jewish day schools. With a vibrant community of over 3,000 members, their Rabbis, Professional Staff and Lay Leaders are always trying to grow the community in passion and learning.

SA UNION OF JEWISH STUDENTS

The South African Union of Jewish Students (SAUJS) is a non-profit organisation that caters to the needs of Jewish students in South Africa across the different university campuses.​ Their projects are aimed at keeping Jewish students active and involved in both South African and Jewish affairs.

SAZF CAPE COUNCIL

The South African Zionist Federation Cape Council (SAZFcape) protect and promote Israel in South Africa. They do this by educating and establishing projects that promote Israel, strengthening the bond between South African Jews and Israel, building ties with friends of Israel, and facilitating Aliyah and Israel experiences.

SINAI ACADEMY

Sinai Academy caters to pre and primary-schoolers and brings the best of Montessori, Reggio, Jewish and Child Centred methods of education together. Sinai is devoted to helping children learn socialization skills, building their self-confidence and teaching them the preliminary skills to explore and experience the world independently.

STAFFWISE

Inspired by the Mitzvah of Parnasah, Staffwise is a Jewish job centre providing recruitment and career services. Committed to reducing Jewish unemployment, Staffwise drives employment projects and socio-economic empowerment initiatives that enhances Jewish continuity and communal prosperity.

UNION OF ORTHODOX SYNAGOGUES

The Union of Orthodox Synagogues (UOS) is the coordinating organisation of Orthodox Synagogues throughout South Africa. The Beth Din and The Office of the Chief Rabbi also fall under UOS governance. It is the largest Jewish religious organisation in South Africa.

UNITED HERZLIA SCHOOLS

Herzlia is a Jewish community school aimed at providing a Jewish and secular education to the Jewish youth of Cape Town, regardless of religious affiliation. Their educational foundation, supplemented by core Jewish values, rests on five pillars: Academics, Jewish Life & Learning (JLL), Sport, Arts & Culture, and Menschlichkeit.

YESHIVA OF CAPE TOWN

The Yeshiva of Cape Town is a kollel and yeshiva established in 1994. The Yeshiva’s ideology is Religious Zionist / Centrist Orthodox. The Bachurim (students) of the Yeshiva come from Israel for a period of 11 months, mainly from hesder yeshivot, to study the depth and breadth of Torah.
