ujclegacesSouth Africa, though filled with promise, is a country confronting serious social issues. The dangers inherent of a society battling with poverty, illness, the handicapped and less fortunate, are perhaps more prevalent in South Africa than in many countries.

The Cape Town Jewish Community is not immune to these difficulties and sadly can only rely on the support of co-religionists to tend to those pressures it must confront. These social welfare and communal challenges are unlikely to dissippate and are only likely to increase.

The Community's hope lies in the philanthropic culture that has become part of the ethos of Jewish Cape Town. The generous support of so many men, women and children ensures that Jewish life, and the welfare of every member of this community, continues to improve.

In accordance with its responsibility to safeguard the Jewish future in Cape Town, the United Jewish Campaign is working with generous individuals to establish charitable trusts that will reap benefit on the community for years to come. Contrary to popular belief, one does not have to be exceptionally wealthy to establish a charitable trust. And, the benefits it offers from a tax perspective are substantial.

Another vehicle utilised by many community members to leave a legacy is to apportion part of one's estate to the Jewish Community. This can be achieved by attaching a simple codicil to one's last will and testament.

The United Jewish Campaign invites you to explore the various measures open to you to leave your mark on Jewish life in Cape Town. Kindly contact Gerald Kleinman at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it / 021-464-6700.
